CERN is pleased to announce the conclusion of a contract with VSL International Ltd. for the heavy lifting operations required to replace the existing #CMS calorimeters with two new High-Granularity Calorimeter (HGCAL) detectors. The #HGCAL project is a key upgrade for the CMS Experiment, planned during Long Shutdown 3 (LS3). These cutting-edge detectors will significantly enhance CMS’s ability to track particles with unprecedented precision. A crucial step in this process is the safe removal and replacement of the current calorimeters, ensuring the CMS detector is ready for future ground breaking discoveries at the Large Hadron Collider (#LHC). As part of this upgrade, VSL will undertake the complex heavy lifting and logistics required to extract the existing 300T calorimeters and install the new 250T HGCAL detectors in the CMS cavern, located 100m underground. This operation demands: ✅ The design and manufacturing of specialized tooling to ensure safe and precise execution; ✅A precisely orchestrated sequence of maneuvers; ✅ Careful handling of massive, high-value detector components with sub-millimeter accuracy (<1mm). This collaboration represents a critical milestone in the CMS upgrade, pushing the boundaries of engineering and technology in support of fundamental physics research. 💬 About this new contract, Christophe Petrel, VSL Central Europe & Middle East Director, declared: "After a first project with CERN in 2006 for the CMS installation, it is a great honour for VSL Switzerland to be selected once again for this specialized work. This project, continuing until 2028, recognizes VSL’s expertise in heavy lifting, both in terms of innovation and execution. We are fully committed to meeting and exceeding the expectations of this prestigious client." 💬 Gautier Hamel de Monchenault, CMS Spokesperson, stated: “CMS is particularly pleased with this contract with VSL, in whom we have full confidence to lower our precious calorimeters into the experimental cavern after bringing the old ones to the surface.” #CERN #CMSexperiment #HeavyLifting #Engineering #HGCAL #LHC #CMS #BusinessWithCERN CMS Collaboration

In 1965, Francis Bouygues made history in the construction industry by mandating the use of hard hats on all of the company's worksites. This pioneering initiative set new safety standards in the industry: the measure was adopted a few months later by the French Building Federation. Sixty years later, safety standards and culture have significantly evolved. In predominantly high-risk activities, the Bouygues Group aims for "zero accidents." Constant attention is given to the physical and mental health of teams, particularly in areas such as workplace accident prevention, ergonomics, reducing work-related strain, and combating violence and harassment in the workplace. The health and safety of employees are the cornerstone of Bouygues' commitments.👷♀️

Do you know how VSL Middle East Heavy Lifting team lifted the #Burjkhalifa pinnacle to the top of the World’s tallest building ?
🚀 Today, we’re proud to look back at one of VSL’s most iconic achievements: the lifting of the pinnacle of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world at 828 meters. This project remains a source of immense pride for us. 🏆 ➡️ Our teams lifted the 450-ton pinnacle over a distance of 89 meters at a speed of 10 meters per hour, using 3 SLU 220/550 strand jacks. ➡️ The 143-meter-long steel pinnacle was meticulously assembled and welded at Level 156 (+585m) before being lifted in 8 carefully planned steps. ➡️ With limited space and no crane access after installation, our equipment was pre-assembled on the ground and strategically dismantled after the lift. 👷 Our teams played a key role in shaping such an iconic landmark. 🌍✨ We’re excited to continue delivering groundbreaking solutions for the most ambitious projects worldwide. It is what drives the VSL family every day. 🙂 #BurjKhalifa #TeamWork
