Once upon a time on a day in 2011, we were introduced to a girl named Rebecca Black, whose breakout song would follow us throughout our formative years. The legend goes something like this: At 13 years old, Rebecca and her parents paid a California-based music production company to record two of her singles. Her song "Friday" shot to YouTube fame, where it received over 44 million hits in under a week's time (and as of today, it has over 98 million.) Despite the fact that her song had mixed reactions from viewers, Rebecca continued to pursue her music career.
Well, Rebecca's hard work has certainly paid off because she is back with a new single. "The Great Divide" is nothing like "Friday," and you may not even believe that the two songs were sung by the same person. Rebecca's new single has an EDM feel to it, and according to Rebecca herself, it is more reflective of her style. She told Entertainment Weekly that "The Great Divide" is one of the most meaningful songs she's written. "As I’ve grown up, I’ve realized there are certain people I’ve let into in my life that aren’t healthy for me," Rebecca said. "This song is about letting those people go and feeling power in knowing that’s the best decision for you."

"The Great Divide" has two versions: a stripped-down ballad, and a remix. Both are available on Spotify and iTunes. Rebecca is hoping to release an EP later this fall, and she's recorded more than 30 songs that could possibly be included.
