Multiple Document Interface

(MDI) The ability of an application program to show windows giving views of more than one document at a time.

The opposite is Single Document Interface (SDI).

Multiple Document Interface

A Windows function that enables an application to be programmed to display multiple document windows. Contrast with "Single Document Interface," which allows only one document per application instance.
