Chieti Province is in Abruzzo Region on the eastern coast of Italy along the Adriatic Sea. Its seaside resorts are very popular, especially the famous Trabocchi coast near Fossacesia-San Vito. Visitors are also drawn by the mountains, such as the Maiella, the castle of Roccascalegna, the villages of Guardiagrele, Atessa and Pennapiedimonte. Seaside tourism is focused on Vasto, Casalbordino, Ortona, and Francavilla al Mare.

- 3 Vasto — a destination for seaside and nature tourism
- 4 Ortona — a town founded by Fretani people for trading with the Greeks, which was the scene of a World War II battle between German and predominantly British and Canadian forces; over 2,000 civilians died and the town was largely destroyed

[edit]The province has a predominantly hilly and mountainous territory. The territory is characterized by a succession of parallel valleys. In the northernmost part the landscape is more rugged and uninhabited, in the southern part, more gentle and full of small scattered settlements.
