Q4 2024
Added Rotten Tomatoes Scores to TV & Movie Instant Answers
We added Rotten Tomatoes scores for both the Movies and Cast Instant Answers. We also added IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes scores to the Where to Watch Instant Answer.

Introduced Rich Snippets
You’ll now see additional information beyond standard blue links and site descriptions that provides useful context and details, like film and hotel reviews, company addresses, phone numbers, and more.

Introduced Duck.ai Follow-Up Questions in AI-Assisted Answers
When an AI-assisted answer appears in search results, you can seamlessly move into a conversation with Duck.ai whenever you have questions or want to dig in further. You can decide in AI Settings how often you want answers to appear: often, sometimes (default), on-demand, or never.

Introduced an “Ask Chat” Option for – Recipes and Code Instant Anwers
You can now get instant AI help while exploring recipes and code. We’ve added an “Ask Chat” option under Instant Answers so you can quickly jump into a conversation with Duck.ai whenever you need extra guidance or have questions.

Added the Option To Display Site Names Above URLs
For traditional search results, the site name now appears above the URL. If you prefer the old layout, you can change this in Settings > Appearance under “URL Placement”.

Made Duck.ai Access Easier
We added Duck.ai shortcuts to our browser application menus, and on Mac and Windows, we added a new toolbar shortcut to launch Duck.ai faster. You can show or hide these shortcuts in Settings > Duck.ai. On the DuckDuckGo homepage, you’ll also see a “Chat” link to launch Duck.ai.

Added Keyboard Shortcuts
We added standard keyboard shortcuts for Duck.ai interactions. You can now quickly start new chats, copy responses, switch models, and navigate the interface using intuitive key combinations. Hover over elements to see the corresponding key combination shortcuts in tooltips.
Introduced Recent Chats
With Recent Chats, you can access your last 30 conversations, which are stored locally in your browser, not on DuckDuckGo or other remote servers. This feature is optional and can be turned on or off in Duck.ai Settings. We’ve also refreshed the chat interface with a new chat history view, improved header on small screens, and a more streamlined design.

Improved Page Zoom Customization and Discoverability
Page zoom is easier to access via the main […] menu. You can also customize the zoom level for individual websites separate from the global zoom setting. That means, you can apply a default zoom level everywhere, but the browser can also remember a preferred zoom level for individual domains. Your preferences are saved locally and will be reset for any sites you haven’t chosen to Fireproof if you use the Fire Button.

Made DuckDuckGo’s Password Manager Available in Other Apps
You can now use DuckDuckGo’s password manager as an autofill provider in other apps. To enable on iOS 18, go to iOS Settings > General > Autofill & Passwords, then toggle on for DuckDuckGo. On iOS 17 and earlier, find the option in iOS Settings > Passwords > Password Options.
Developed a More Seamless Form-Fill Experience
When filling out multi-page forms (like when creating an account to sign up for a service), autofill will remember your username or email for 3 minutes, even if you haven’t completed the entire form. This makes form completion easier if you later reach a password page on the same website because the browser has the username or email you previously entered ready to autofill.
Added a New Address Bar Position Setting
You can now opt to position the address bar at the top or bottom of the screen. Go to Settings > Appearance if you’d like to change the address bar position.

Introduced App Launch Screen Customization
You can now pick which page you see when launching the app. Go to Settings > General > Show on App Launch and pick between your last opened tab, the new tab page, or a custom URL.
Added Ability To Import Passwords From Google Password Manager
You can now import your passwords from Google Password Manager. In the DuckDuckGo browser, go to Settings > Passwords and select “Import Passwords from Google” to get started.
Added Suggestions for Already-Open Tabs
If you already have a tab open that matches what you’re searching, the browser will suggest switching to that tab, so you don’t have to make a new search.

Added Bookmarks Bar Setting to Change Alignment
You can now choose whether items in the bookmarks bar align left or center. Right-click the toolbar and open the “Bookmarks Bar” menu or go to Settings > Appearance > Bookmarks Bar to adjust.

Added Audio Icon to Tabs
We now show an audio icon on tabs currently playing sound, so you can quickly mute or unmute the tab by tapping on the icon. This works for both pinned and regular tabs.
Added Ability to Remove Search Suggestions
You can now remove suggestions from local browsing history that appear in address bar autocomplete by hovering over the history item and selecting the trash can icon.

Added More Language Support
The browser can now “speak” 8 more languages, including French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, and Polish. Display language will reflect your system setting on Windows.
Added Fire Window
Introduced Fire Window to our Windows browser, making it possible to browse without saving local history and sign in to a site with a different account. Fire Windows have the same tracking protections as regular windows, isolate your activity from other browsing data, and automatically burn their data when closed. You can open a new Fire Window anytime from the Fire Button menu.

Implemented More Organized Password Management and Deletion Capability
If you have multiple passwords saved for a site, they’ll be ordered by recency of use in the autofill prompt. We also added an option to delete all saved passwords at once.
Added Bookmark Management View
Introduced a new bookmark management view that opens in a tab for more robust bookmark organization.

Expanded Privacy Pro Internationally
Privacy Pro subscriptions, including the DuckDuckGo VPN, are now available internationally, including the entire E.U., Canada, and the UK. Available in English for now, with translations on the way.
Introduced Easier Subscription Activation
To help you activate your Privacy Pro subscription across devices, we now provide clearer, more personalized guidance. Depending on your current subscription status, you will receive step-by-step instructions tailored to your specific activation needs, to help make the setup process across your devices more seamless.
Windows: Added VPN Notifications
Notifications are now available to help communicate VPN status. Notifications are enabled by default but can be disabled in the VPN Settings page.

Windows: Introduced App and Website Exclusions
Because some apps and websites aren’t compatible with VPNs, you can now exclude these apps and websites to use them while staying connected to the VPN. To access website exclusions, you can click on the VPN icon in the toolbar or manage them in VPN settings. You can manage app exclusions in the VPN settings, as well.

Android: Implemented Auto-Excluded Apps
We’ve made your VPN experience smoother! Our new auto-exclude feature automatically detects apps that aren’t compatible with VPNs and bypasses them, so you won’t need to manually adjust settings. If you would like to adjust this feature, go to Settings > VPN > Manage Apps.
